MECHANICAL PROJECT MANAGER – COMMERCIAL HVAC/MECHANICAL CONSTRUCTION


Location: Chanhassen, MN

Salary: $90,000–$125,000 per year

GENERAL SUMMARY


  • Peterson Sheet Metal (PSM) is seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to lead commercial HVAC, plumbing, piping, and sheet metal projects from preconstruction through final closeout at our Chanhassen location.


This opportunity is ideal for a mechanical construction professional who enjoys taking ownership of projects, leading teams, solving complex challenges, and developing lasting customer relationships.

COMPENSATION


The salary range for this position is $90,000–$125,000 per year.


Starting compensation will be based on directly relevant mechanical construction experience, technical expertise, previous project scope and complexity, leadership experience, and demonstrated ability to independently manage projects.


Candidates with at least five years of directly relevant commercial HVAC, plumbing, piping, or sheet metal project-management experience may qualify for compensation of $100,000 or more, depending on their overall qualifications and demonstrated capabilities.


WHAT YOU’LL DO


As a Mechanical Project Manager, you will take ownership of projects from beginning to end, coordinating the people, materials, schedules, financial performance, documentation, and customer relationships necessary to deliver successful projects.


Key responsibilities include:


* Manage multiple commercial mechanical projects of varying sizes with minimal supervision.

* Develop project budgets, schedules, schedules of values, and project execution plans.

* Monitor job costs, project profitability, labor productivity, schedules, and overall financial performance.

* Coordinate labor requirements with the General Superintendent to ensure appropriate manpower is available to meet project schedules.

* Manage and coordinate subcontractors, vendors, equipment, materials, ordering, and deliveries.

* Complete and manage project submittals, RFIs, change orders, permits, plan reviews, approvals, and other contractual documentation.

* Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, submittals, and contract documents.

* Negotiate pricing and purchase project equipment and materials while balancing cost, quality, schedule, and project requirements.

* Coordinate with Detailing/BIM, field operations, service, accounting, and other internal departments throughout the project lifecycle.

* Visit jobsites regularly to monitor contract compliance, workmanship, progress, and safety.

* Work with the General Superintendent to mentor and coach foremen and journeymen regarding project expectations, company procedures, and work requirements.

* Promote a strong safety culture and ensure PSM safety policies and procedures are followed.

* Build and maintain productive relationships with owners, general contractors, customers, vendors, and other project stakeholders.

* Attend preconstruction, project, coordination, closeout, and post-project meetings as necessary.

* Manage project closeout, including punch lists, O&M manuals, commissioning coordination, warranties, and required closeout documentation.

* Follow up on warranty work and maintain customer relationships after project completion.

* Estimate projects as needed and identify opportunities to improve project efficiency and profitability.

* Meet project deadlines and contractual obligations while maintaining PSM’s standards for quality, safety, and customer service.

* Perform other duties as assigned.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS


* Demonstrated knowledge of commercial HVAC and/or plumbing, piping, or sheet metal construction.

* Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, specifications, and other project documents.

* Strong project-management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

* Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, deadlines, and stakeholders.

* Strong leadership skills and ability to work effectively with field and office teams.

* Strong written and verbal communication skills.

* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

* Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

* Ability to successfully complete required background and drug screening.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


* 5–10 years of directly relevant experience in commercial HVAC, piping, plumbing, sheet metal, or mechanical construction.

* Previous experience independently managing commercial mechanical construction projects.

* Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, construction management, or a related field, or equivalent relevant industry experience.

* PE license or other relevant professional/industry certifications or licenses.

* OSHA 10 certification.

* Experience working collaboratively with field supervision, estimating, BIM/detailing, accounting, service, and project owners/general contractors.
