Job Summary
Position duties include planning, organizing, and providing instruction in English that meet state and federal standards. It also includes coaching and assisting content teachers to achieve instructional objectives, assisting special population students with achieving established goals, assisting schools staff with communication between school and home, and preparing/maintaining files and records.
Essential Duties
Plan, organize, and provide instruction in English that meet state and federal standards.
Provide instruction that is consistent and coordinated with the districts/schools instructional program so as to ensure that students meet and exceed learning targets.
Develop and deliver lesson plans that utilize a broad range of appropriate teaching techniques and strategies.
Adapt curriculum to provide individual, small group, and/or remedial instruction as to meet the needs of individual students and subgroups of students
Maintain complete and accurate records of student progress and evidence of growth and progress.
Assists teachers with instructional activities.
Assists students to reinforce material already presented through special efforts and repetitions; preparing and maintaining files and reports.
Assists classroom teacher(s) in performing specific duties as assigned or undertaking specialized tasks.
Assists in providing individual and small-group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils' intellectual abilities.
Prepares instructional materials; reads to students.
Assists the classroom teacher in creating an environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
Helps plan daily and long-range lessons and classroom activities.
Instructs students on use of computer software; prepares lesson plans.
Helps students with problem solving and language skills.
Alerts the teacher to special needs of individual students.
Administer academic and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating student progress for meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition
Scores required tests for reading and mathematics and enters data into computer.
Checks students work for compliance with teacher's instructions.
Assists students with reading, spelling and handwriting skills.
Helps maintain individual records for each student.
Collects and displays suitable material for educational displays; prepares displays; decorates classroom.
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Assists in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
Helps maintain order in the classroom; monitors students to keep them on tasks.
Performs related tasks as required.
Job Specifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required)
General knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in classroom teaching; ability to maintain confidential files and information and to compile reports; ability to deal effectively with students and teachers; skill in the use of classroom and instructional equipment; ability to operate standard office, word and data processing equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, parents, students, and associates.
Spanish as native/second language preferred.
Experience working with ESL students and parents a must.
Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in the appropriate subject area.
Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
Demonstrated ability in decision making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, and planning.
Knowledge of a wide range of scientific subject areas.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
Ability to organize and coordinate work.
Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.
Certification and Licensure: Eligible for Virginia Endorsement in English as a Second Language.

Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors and on the telephone; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds; to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead.
