Family Assistant / Household Manager

Employment Type: Part- time/Full-time (24-40hrs)

Overview

We are seeking a proactive, organized, dependable, and caring Family Assistant to help manage the day-to-day needs of our household. A significant focus of this position will be meal planning, cooking, grocery management, and keeping the kitchen organized, along with general household support, laundry, organization, and occasional errands.

We are looking for someone who enjoys cooking and taking care of a home and who takes pride in helping a household run smoothly. The ideal person is self-motivated and able to recognize what needs attention without needing constant direction.

This is not primarily a childcare position. Our children are older and generally independent. There may occasionally be a need to assist with a morning routine or provide some supervision, but childcare represents a very small portion of the overall role.

Meal Preparation & Kitchen Management

A primary responsibility of this position will be helping our family stay organized with meals and maintaining a clean, well-stocked kitchen.

• Prepare and cook family meals throughout the week.
• Assist with creating weekly meal plans and menus.
• Prep ingredients and meals ahead of time to make busy evenings easier.
• Maintain an ongoing grocery list based on planned meals and household needs.
• Grocery shop or coordinate grocery pickup as needed.
• Keep the refrigerator, freezer, pantry, and food-storage areas clean and organized.
• Monitor kitchen inventory and replenish frequently used items.
• Properly store leftovers and prepared foods.
• Load and unload the dishwasher and maintain a clean kitchen.
• Clean up after cooking and meal preparation.
• Occasionally prepare snacks, lunches, or grab-and-go foods for the family.

You do not need to be a professional chef, but you should be comfortable and confident in the kitchen and genuinely enjoy cooking.

Household Management & Organization

• Perform general housekeeping and help maintain clean and tidy living spaces.
• Manage family laundry, including washing, folding, and putting clothing and linens away.
• Change bedding and assist with general household upkeep as needed.
• Organize and declutter areas of the home.
• Keep household supplies organized and notify us when items need to be replenished.
• Help maintain systems that keep the household organized and running efficiently.
• Notice and address routine household needs without always needing to be asked.

Errands & Personal Assistance

• Run occasional household errands.
• Pick up groceries, household supplies, or other items as needed.
• Assist with miscellaneous household, personal, or administrative tasks.
• Help with occasional appointments, deliveries, returns, or other day-to-day family needs.

Limited Child/Family Support

Our children are older and generally self-sufficient, so this position involves very limited direct childcare.

Occasionally, assistance may be needed with the school morning routine, transportation, or simply being present in the home when a parent is unavailable. The ideal candidate should enjoy being around children and interact with them in a kind and positive manner, but applicants should understand that this is primarily a household and meal-preparation position rather than a nanny role.

Qualifications & Skills

• Previous experience as a Family Assistant, Household Assistant, House Manager, Personal Assistant, Nanny, or in a similar household role preferred.
• Strong cooking skills and comfort preparing family meals.
• Enjoys meal planning, food preparation, and maintaining an organized kitchen.
• Highly organized, dependable, and trustworthy.
• Proactive and able to work independently.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Comfortable performing general household and laundry tasks.
• Good communication and time-management skills.
• Kind, patient, and comfortable around children.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
• Reliable transportation.
• Professional references required.

More than anything, we are looking for someone who enjoys taking care of a home and making life easier for a busy family. Someone who sees that the refrigerator needs organizing, realizes we're running low on a staple, starts dinner without needing step-by-step instructions, folds the laundry while something is in the oven, and generally helps keep things moving.
