Position Summary:

The Distribution Center Selector is responsible for continuously developing and having a strong understanding of the picking process, pallet building, forklift and electric jack use, pallet building, and warehouse safety procedures. Needs to understand the products, selection, safety, and case pick handling. S/he must maximize sales potential through effective and proper procedures for receiving all products entering the store including verifying actual product against packing slips, confirming product integrity, and checking product temperatures as needed. S/he must initial and code invoices, log invoices, and distribute to appropriate departments. S/he is responsible for maintaining cleanliness of receiving area including loading dock and trash areas. As a PFM team member is able to exemplify Pete’s Four Pillars of Value, Aesthetic, Quality, and Customer Service.

Essential Functions and Duties:

• Fulfill daily pick tickets and follow shipping requirements for the customer orders.
• Must be able to prepare multiple orders simultaneously and separately.
• Gather and organize the ordered items onto pallets as needed.
• Label/Mark the ordered items properly to avoid missed shipments.
• Prepare and secure the orders for shipping and bring them to the loading area.
• Builds and shrink wraps a stable and well cubed pallet.
• Loads trailers as assigned.
• Follows and enhances SOP for labeling, stacking, and put away of inbound receipts.
• Checks and reports damage, shorts, miss slotted, or obvious quality issues.
• Must be able to physically work in a cooler or deep freezer environment for a large portion of the working shift.
• Must have a strong work ethic and good attendance.

Job Skills:

• Ability to learn basic knowledge of all products and equipment.
• Ability to follow directions and procedures, effective time management and organization skills.
• Strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency.
• Prior retail experience required.

Education, Certifications, and Qualifications:

• College degree preferred, or an equivalent of experience in a retail store operations environment.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in retail grocery operations or a similar role
• Valid Food Handler Certification

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Thorough and clear documentation skills.
• Proficiency with technology, including systems (LOC, Apps) and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and SharePoint).
• An effective communication style along with strong interpersonal skills.
• Excellent fluency with the English language; command of the Spanish language a plus.
• Detail orientation, multi-tasking ability, and solid organizational/project management skills.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Physical demands include, but are not limited to:

• Frequent hand use, single grasping, squeezing, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling, twisting wrist, bending and hand to eye coordination.
• Standing in one location, walking, turning, reaching, stooping/bending, squatting
• Lifting/carrying objects 5 to 40 lbs., pushing/pulling up objects 100 to 200 lbs., occasionally lifting objects over 40 lbs. and pushing/pulling up objects 100 to 500 lbs.
• Climbing ladders, stooping and crawling.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, weekends and holidays as needed.
• Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals.
• May be exposed to various temperature changes and work environments such as:
• Exposure to temperatures: <32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators), >90 degrees Fahrenheit.
• Ability to work in wet and dry conditions.
• Ability to use tools and equipment, including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.

Starting hourly rates will be no less than the local minimum wage and will vary based on things like location, experience, and qualifications. All positions are eligible for Overtime, and some positions will have guaranteed Overtime available.

Hourly rate for Suburban Stores is $17-$20

Hourly rate for City of Chicago Stores is $17.05-$20
