About the Role
We are seeking an experienced, positive, and highly motivated Dog Trainer to provide in-home puppy and dog training sessions for clients throughout the Union and Essex market. This role involves travel to client homes, relationship-building with pet parents, and delivering consistent, results-driven training customized to the dog's age, needs, and behavior.
This is an excellent opportunity for a trainer who enjoys independence, flexible scheduling, working directly with families, and helping puppies and dogs build strong foundations.
Key Responsibilities
- Travel to client homes within assigned regions of New Jersey.
- Conduct one-on-one training sessions for puppies and adult dogs, including:
- Basic manners (sit, stay, come, leash walking)
- Housebreaking
- Crate training
- Socialization skills
- Problem-solving for common behavioral concerns (jumping, barking, leash pulling)
- Provide structured training plans tailored to each dog's needs.
- Educate owners on handling techniques, reinforcement, and training consistency.
- Maintain accurate notes and progress reports for each session.
- Communicate professionally and promptly with clients and the supervising team.
- Represent the company brand with excellent customer service and professionalism.
- Work collaboratively with veterinary partners (if connected to a veterinary clinic) to support overall pet wellness.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a dog trainer (certifications preferred, e.g., CPDT-KA, Fear-Free, IAABC, but not required).
- Strong understanding of positive reinforcement and science-based training methods.
- Comfortable traveling throughout a defined New Jersey territory.
- Reliable transportation.
- Ability to work independently and manage your own schedule.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Must be able to handle dogs of all sizes and temperaments.
- Passion for educating pet owners and improving animal behavior.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in puppy socialization and foundation training.
- Ability to create structured training plans for clients.
- Experience working with veterinary clinics or pet-care facilities.
- Flexibility to offer evening or weekend sessions when needed.
