Pet Store Team Lead

Responsibilities

• Work full-time (40 hours/week or more, if needed)
• Responsible for store day-to-day operations
• Champion operational best practices, identify opportunities for improvement, and celebrate team successes
• Schedule/adjust work schedules to ensure effective store operations
• Conduct inventory management to ensure proper inventory levels, adjustments, accuracy, and timely availability
• Instill high customer service by all and manage neighbor issues/concerns
• Lead staffing to include hiring, retention, training, evaluations, corrective actions, and terminations
• Coach and develop team members using company training tools and daily/operational checklists
• Communicate effectively with the team through huddles, one-on-ones, and other channels
• Proactive open dialogue with owners to ensure the store performs smoothly
• Maintain cleanliness of the store
• Represent the store in the community by building partnerships, leading events, and promoting the brand and driving content for social media to strengthen local presence and neighbor loyalty
• Be a trusted authority on pet nutrition
• Stay informed on product knowledge, promotions, and advertisements
• Complete assigned educational and operational training
• Perform other duties as assigned by the owners

Qualifications

• 5 years of retail experience in a leadership role
• Genuine passion for the pet industry
• Expertise in pet consumables and hard goods
• Demonstrative knowledge of pet nutrition
• Proven ability to lead a team of at least 10 employees ranging in expertise and abilities
• Ability to work in a dynamic environment to meet neighbor (they are not just our customer) and store needs
• Ability to comply with company policies and procedures while identifying areas of improvement
• Ability to provide effective employee corrective action
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods
• Ability to climb ladders, bend, kneel, and stock shelves
• Proficiency in operating store equipment and POS systems
• Proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively with owners, team leaders/members, and neighbors
• Ability to read, count, and write accurately
• Flexibility to work varied shifts including nights and weekends
• Reliable and consistent attendance
