About the Role:

The Wildlife Service Technician plays a critical role in managing and mitigating human-wildlife conflicts to promote coexistence and protect both public safety and wildlife populations. This position involves conducting fieldwork to monitor wildlife activity, assess habitats, and implement humane control measures in accordance with federal and state regulations. The technician will collaborate with landowners, government agencies, and conservation organizations to develop and execute effective wildlife management plans. Through data collection and reporting, the technician contributes to ongoing research and policy development aimed at sustainable wildlife conservation. Ultimately, this role ensures that wildlife services are delivered efficiently, ethically, and with a strong commitment to environmental stewardship.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Experience in wildlife handling, pest control, or related fieldwork.
  • Knowledge of local wildlife species, their behaviors, and applicable wildlife regulations.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or higher in wildlife biology, environmental science, or a related discipline.
  • Certification in wildlife control or pest management.
  • Experience using GPS and data collection technology in field settings.
  • Strong communication skills for public outreach and interagency collaboration.
  • First aid and CPR certification.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field inspections to identify wildlife presence, damage, and potential hazards in residential, commercial, and natural areas.
  • Implement wildlife control techniques such as exclusion, habitat modification, and live trapping to resolve conflicts safely and humanely.
  • Maintain detailed records of wildlife activity, control measures applied, and outcomes to support regulatory compliance and program evaluation.
  • Educate the public and stakeholders on wildlife behavior, prevention strategies, and safety protocols to foster community awareness and cooperation.
  • Collaborate with biologists, environmental specialists, and law enforcement to ensure adherence to wildlife protection laws and best practices.

Skills:

The Wildlife Service Technician utilizes observational and analytical skills daily to assess wildlife situations accurately and determine appropriate intervention methods. Proficiency in handling equipment such as traps, deterrents, and monitoring devices ensures effective and humane wildlife management. Communication skills are essential for educating the public and coordinating with various stakeholders to promote understanding and compliance. Technical skills in data recording and reporting support the documentation of field activities and contribute to research efforts. Additionally, problem-solving abilities enable the technician to adapt strategies to diverse environments and evolving wildlife challenges.
