Position Summary

 

The Accounting Technician provides critical support to both the Finance and School Nutrition departments through payroll processing, bookkeeping, accounts payable, purchasing oversight, and administrative support. This position ensures accurate financial records, timely reporting, and smooth daily operations across multiple programs. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage a variety of tasks in a fast-paced environment.

 

 Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business, or related field preferred.
  • Prior experience in bookkeeping, payroll, or accounts payable strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general financial software.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

Payroll Support

  • Review and adjust employee timesheets.
  • Import daily absence data.
  • Monitor and update leave balances.
  • Prepare field trip driver pay quotes.
  • Reconcile and process payments for supplemental insurance policies.
  • Process supplemental insurance enrollments.
  • Reconcile employee annuities and process vendor payments.
  • Prepare deduction reports.

School Nutrition Program Support

  • Import student data from Infinite Campus
  • Remove withdrawn students from Meals Plus
  • Import Direct Certification reports
  • Update school nutrition managers’ timesheets
  • Ensure all daily records are properly closed for the month
  • Review monthly participation reports and correct discrepancies
  • Review Edit Check Reports, identify errors, and document explanations
  • Review receipts and collection reports for accuracy
  • Verify all deposits by school and reconcile with Meals Plus entries
  • Review over/under amounts and follow up with managers as needed
  • Invoice outside parties for meals served
  • Review and key invoices
  • Order office supplies and repair parts for School Nutrition operations

Front Desk Support

  • Serve as backup for receptionist as needed

Purchasing Support

  • Manage purchasing cards, including monitoring activity and reconciling monthly statements.

Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor

 

Working Conditions

  • Standard office environment with frequent computer use.
  • Occasional interruptions and deadlines requiring timely responses.
  • Some tasks may require communication with school sites, vendors, and district staff.

Physical Requirements

  • This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force.
  • Work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions.
  • Work occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, pushing or pulling and lifting.
  • Work has standard vision requirements
  • Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken work; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
  • Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities.
  • Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
