About The Advocates
The Advocates is a dynamic singing and performing group of adults with disabilities who entertain audiences at events throughout California. Our mission is to spread empowerment and prove that with the right supports, everyone can achieve their dreams through the power of song and dance. We're seeking a passionate Dance Instructor to join our supportive coaching team. You'll help our performers develop their skills during rehearsals, then watch them shine independently on stage at community events across California.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach simple, accessible choreography to adult performers with disabilities
- Break down dance routines using clear music counting and rhythm techniques
- Communicate regularly with families about upcoming performances and schedules
- Problem-solve issues within group settings with patience and professionalism
- Establish and maintain clear expectations for the group
- Support performers in developing showmanship and stage presence
- Foster an empowering, encouraging learning environment
Required Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of music counting, rhythm, and beat
- Experience teaching simple choreography
- Excellent attendance and reliability (rehearsals are 2-3x per week) 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM
- Strong communication skills for family engagement
- Ability to problem-solve and manage group dynamics
- Patient, supportive, and enthusiastic approach
- Commitment to our mission of empowerment
- Must have occasional weekend availability for performances
