Position Summary

The Polysomnographic Scoring Technologist works under the general supervision of the Scoring Manager and Corporate Medical Director or designee to provide accurate and timely scoring of sleep studies. The Scoring Technologist is responsible for analyzing polysomnographic data, applying current AASM scoring standards, and ensuring high-quality, compliant scoring outcomes to support the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders.

This role requires advanced knowledge of polysomnography, strong attention to detail, proficiency with scoring platforms, and adherence to established policies, protocols, and accreditation standards.

Please Note: This is a 1099 independent contractor position, with compensation provided on a per-study-scored basis. Applicants must hold an active New York RPSGT license.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Polysomnographic Scoring

  • Score sleep studies according to the most current AASM Scoring Manual.
  • Analyze physiological data obtained from monitoring devices including EEG, EOG, EMG, ECG, respiratory signals, and oximetry to identify sleep stages, respiratory events, arousals, limb movements, and other abnormalities.
  • Interpret sleep architecture and patterns, including sleep staging, arousal frequency, sleep efficiency, and REM latency, to assist in the diagnosis and management of sleep disorders.
  • Accurately score assigned sleep studies within designated turnaround times appropriate to test type.
  • Score all sleep records using all RECOMMENDED events (sleep staging, arousals, PLMs, respiratory events) in accordance with the most current AASM Scoring Manual within 24 calendar hours of receipt of a complete study, barring technical or data integrity issues.
  • Review and edit all computer-assisted scoring on an epoch-by-epoch basis to ensure accuracy and compliance with AASM standards.

Documentation and Data Management

  • Maintain accurate and complete documentation of scoring results, patient demographics, and clinical observations in electronic medical records (EMR) or designated scoring systems.
  • Maintain proficiency in technical knowledge required to score studies across multiple acquisition and scoring platforms.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge and effective use of internal platforms and systems.
  • Adapt to changes in workflows and demonstrate the ability to learn new and evolving processes.

Technical Support and Operational Collaboration

  • Assist with troubleshooting technical issues related to scoring software or data quality and communicate issues to appropriate teams as needed.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, quality assurance initiatives, and interscorer reliability activities.
  • Train and mentor new hire and trainee scorers under established guidelines and accrediting agency standards.
  • Resolve discrepancies in scoring documentation or data quality through appropriate escalation channels.
  • Maintain consistent adherence to quality standards and scoring accuracy expectations.

Compliance and Professional Standards

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and quality assurance protocols related to polysomnographic testing and scoring.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and effective communication skills appropriate to a healthcare environment.
  • Maintaining required licensure, credentials, and continuing education to prevent lapses in certification.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate social skills in all interactions.
  • Ensure confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and privacy regulations.
  • Attend and maintain documentation of required meetings, training, and educational activities as assigned.
  • Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and professional standards.

Work Environment and Operational Expectations

  • Maintain reliable internet connectivity and ability to communicate effectively with team members via electronic communication.
  • Create and maintain a clean, organized, and professional remote or on-site work environment.
Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • Current credential as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) or equivalent in good standing.
  • Experience scoring in-lab and/or home sleep studies with demonstrated knowledge of current AASM rules and standards.
  • Maintain 30 CEUs within a rolling 36-month period.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification.
  • Current State Licensure, if applicable.

  • Review and evaluate sleep studies and provide appropriate feedback to staff.

  • Assist Persante’ s medical director, clinical director and/or manager in all aspects of scoring operations.

AASM Standards of Practice

  • All scorers will comply with applicable standards of the current version of the AASM Facility Standards for Accreditation.
  • All scorers must maintain proper credentialing. Specifically, the scorer will maintain one of the following credentials: RST, RPSGT, CPSGT, CRT-SDS, or RRT-SDS, or score under the supervision of a credentialed scorer while enrolled in or having completed an AASM-approved polysomnographic educational program.
  • Scorers will score each epoch of each PSG for sleep staging, arousals, respiratory events, and limb movements in accordance with the current version of the AASM Scoring Manual.
  • All computer-assisted scoring must be reviewed and edited by the scorer to ensure full compliance with AASM standards.
  • All scorers are required to participate in an AASM-compliant Interscorer Reliability Program.
  • All scoring will be performed in accordance with the recommendations and requirements set forth in the current version of the AASM Manual for the Scoring of Sleep and Associated Events.
