Join our dynamic healthcare team as a Medical/Clinical Assistant specializing in Specialty Incoming Referrals and Triage! In this vital role, you will be the first point of contact for patients seeking specialized care, ensuring seamless intake, accurate triage, and efficient coordination a private office setting. Your expertise will help streamline patient flow, prioritize urgent cases, and support our provider staff and infusion department in delivering exceptional patient care. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work across diverse office workflows such as incoming referral data input and review, eligibility, prior authorizations, triage patient call contacts, medical records and documentation while making a real difference in patient care outcomes.
Duties
- Conduct thorough patient intake by gathering comprehensive medical histories and verifying insurance and referral information
- Perform initial triage assessments by evaluating symptoms, vital signs, and urgency levels to prioritize care effectively
- Utilize Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems to document patient information accurately and efficiently (Our office uses eClinicalWorks)
- Assist with the collection of vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration rate, and temperature to support clinical decision-making
- Support administrative and clinical staff with various workflow duties, from front desk to clinical intake/administration work plus patient care.
- Coordinate care with specialists across various fields such as dermatology, primary care, opthalmology, & gastroenterology.
- Maintain detailed records of ICD (International Classification of Diseases) coding for accurate billing and documentation purposes
- Provide exceptional patient service by addressing questions, explaining procedures, and ensuring a welcoming environment for all patients
Qualifications
- 2 year minimum experience in physician office or clinical setting is highly preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and ICD coding standards
- Familiarity with EHR systems and medical administrative support functions
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is desirable
- Strong understanding of outpatient workflows across specialties such as geriatrics, internal medicine is preferred
- Excellent and welcoming communication skills with the ability to handle intake efficiently while providing compassionate patient care
- Ability to work collaboratively with fellow co-workers in a truly team oriented office
