SUMMARY:

The Staff Accountant (Tax Compliance) plays a critical role in supporting the finance department by ensuring complete, accurate, and timely adherence to local, state, and federal tax regulations. This position actively participates in monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes. Key responsibilities include recording journal entries, reconciling general ledger accounts, preparing tax compliance filings, and analyzing financial data across multiple subsidiaries to ensure financial accuracy. The ideal candidate is proactive, possesses strong analytical and communication skills, and thrives under multiple deadlines.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and assist with the filing of corporate income, sales and use, property tax, and unclaimed property returns across applicable local, state, and federal jurisdictions.
• Participate in month-end close activities and maintain the Corporate Accounting close calendar.
• Prepare and input monthly journals and adjusting entries.
• Perform monthly tax-related general ledger account reconciliations, record tax accruals, and ensure precise recording of tax liabilities and payments at the corporate level with multiple subsidiaries.
• Execute and maintain all recurring entries, including those for General Accounting, Deferred Rent, Allocations, Tenant Allowance, Personal Property Tax, and other assigned categories.
• Record accounting transactions in accordance with GAAP and internal controls.
• Establish new accounts or modify existing account structures within the NetSuite financial system.
• Conduct special projects/studies, prepare analysis as needed.
• Participate in sales tax, year-end, and interim audits.
• Maintain international accounting schedules in multiple currencies
• Partner with internal teams (Payroll, Accounts Payable, Operations) to ensure proper tax treatment on vendor invoices, employee withholdings, and business transactions.
• Partner with consultants to ensure tax compliance and maintenance of corporate registrations

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree or 3–5 years of work experience in an accounting role.
• Knowledge of Accounting Principles, GAAP and research skills
• Strong analytical problem-solving, meticulous attention to detail, clear written and verbal communication, and strict adherence to statutory deadlines.
• Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, Oracle EBS), tax software (e.g.,Avalara), and Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables).
