Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the School Administration, the teacher is responsible for overseeing the alternative education setting at Southport High School. This role focuses on facilitating student success and growth in both academic and interpersonal skills through the implementation of district-approved curriculum via the online credit recovery and credit accrual program. The teacher will document student progress/activities/outcomes, assist students with course goal-setting, address individual educational needs of students, and maintain a flexible, safe, and optimal learning environment. Additionally, the teacher will provide feedback to students, parents, school counselors, and/or administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.
Essential Job Functions
Uses standard teaching equipment such as personal computers, printer, telephone, pens and pencils, dry erase markers, timer, etc.
Travel Requirements
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Pay Rates
PEA certified position.

Essential Job Functions
- Program Oversight:
- Registers students in the online program and assigns courses as directed by school counselors or administrators.
- Meet virtually with online homebound students to provide the required hours of support.
- Student Support:
- Provide academic support and guidance to help students advance in their online coursework.
- Develop individualized daily learning objectives and progress goals for each student as well as assist them in setting and achieving their own course goals.
- Monitors student progress, conducts individual conferences to provide feedback, and provides individual or small group instruction as needed.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Document student progress, activities, and outcomes daily.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and development.
- Environment Management:
- Create and maintain a flexible, safe, and optimal learning environment.
- Ensure that the learning environment is conducive to student growth and success.
- Communication:
- Communicate expectations, goals, and progress to students, parents, school counselors and administration.
- Facilitate open and effective communication channels between students, parents, and school staff.
- Personal Growth
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars/workshops and weekly professional development meetings.
