Special Education Instructional Assistant

Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Special Education Instructional Assistant at RW Combs Elementary. In this full-time role, you will work closely with special education teachers to support students with diverse learning needs. Your primary responsibility will be to provide individualized instruction and assistance, fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment. You will play a vital role in helping students achieve their academic and personal goals while promoting their social and emotional development.

Responsibilities

• Assist special education teachers in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
• Provide one-on-one and small group instruction to students, adapting teaching methods to meet their unique learning needs.
• Support students in daily classroom activities, including academic tasks, social interactions, and self-care routines.
• Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and engagement, providing feedback to teachers and parents as needed.
• Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
• Assist in the preparation of instructional materials and classroom resources.
• Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in special education practices.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions with students, families, and staff.
• Support students during transitions between activities and throughout the school day, ensuring their safety and well-being.
• Foster positive relationships with students, encouraging their independence and self-advocacy skills.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; an associate's degree or higher in education, special education, or a related field is preferred.
• Experience working with students with disabilities or in a special education setting is highly desirable.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, families, and staff.
• Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students with diverse learning needs.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and follow directions from teachers and specialists.
• Basic computer skills and proficiency in using educational software and technology.
• Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices is a plus.
• First Aid and CPR certification is preferred or the willingness to obtain certification.
• Must pass background checks and any required assessments for working with children.
