Responsibilities
- Assist special education teachers in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
- Provide one-on-one and small group instruction to students, adapting teaching methods to meet their unique learning needs.
- Support students in daily classroom activities, including academic tasks, social interactions, and self-care routines.
- Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and engagement, providing feedback to teachers and parents as needed.
- Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
- Assist in the preparation of instructional materials and classroom resources.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in special education practices.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions with students, families, and staff.
- Support students during transitions between activities and throughout the school day, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Foster positive relationships with students, encouraging their independence and self-advocacy skills.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; an associate's degree or higher in education, special education, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience working with students with disabilities or in a special education setting is highly desirable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, families, and staff.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students with diverse learning needs.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and follow directions from teachers and specialists.
- Basic computer skills and proficiency in using educational software and technology.
- Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices is a plus.
- First Aid and CPR certification is preferred or the willingness to obtain certification.
- Must pass background checks and any required assessments for working with children.
