Perplexity is looking for an experienced Accounting Manager to join our small team revolutionizing the way people search and interact with the internet. The Finance and Accounting team at Perplexity is playing a critical role in defining and driving strategic and financial processes across the company and is looking for a self-motivated and detail-oriented individual who can prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment. You will be working closely with the Controller to lead the GL accounting function with a focus on audit readiness, process optimization, and scalable growth. Responsibilities
- Lead all aspects of general ledger accounting and the associated month-end close processes, including the consolidation process of two foreign subsidiaries, ensuring proper currency translation, elimination of inter-company transactions, and alignment with parent company accounting policies.
- Refine and streamline the month-end close process to improve efficiency, shorten close timelines, and enhance review controls.
- Own the financial statement preparation process, monthly flux analysis and the preparation of periodic management reporting to leadership.
- Manage the accounting and financial reporting for international subsidiaries and oversee the work of local service providers.
- Drive audit readiness initiatives in preparation for the company’s first financial statement audit, including policy/memo writing, reconciliations, process documentation, etc.
- Serve as the primary NetSuite administrator, responsible for configuring, maintaining, and optimizing the system to ensure data accuracy and integrity. Own chart of accounts governance, manage user roles and permissions, oversee data imports/exports, and enforce best practices for system usage and internal controls.
- Assist with liquidity management functions such as cash flow forecasting and ensuring all bank accounts are appropriately funded to meet operational needs; and ensure accurate and GAAP-compliant financial reporting of investments.
- Identify opportunities for, and assist in the design, documentation and implementation of process improvements and increased automation to support the company’s rapid growth and evolving business needs.
- Assist with tax filings (corporate income tax, business taxes and SUT) and ongoing related compliance initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting or Finance.
- CPA/CA certification.
- 7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably a combination of public accounting and industry experience.
- Working knowledge and practical understanding of US GAAP principles.
- Deep understanding of US GAAP and experience with documenting technical accounting policies.
- Proven success leading audit preparations and managing first-year audit engagements.
- Experience in a fast-growing startup environment preferred; exposure to SaaS or AI/tech sectors a plus.
- Strong systems proficiency, NetSuite in particular, and familiarity with automation and integration tools.
- Resourcefulness, detail-oriented and a motivation for solving problems and finding solutions.
- Excellent communication skills, as frequent interaction with both internal and external stakeholders will be required.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
