What are the responsibilities and job description for the Front-End Motion Developer (Webflow & GSAP) position at Perpetual?
Perpetual is an award-winning product design and software development agency in NYC. We work on a variety of innovative and exciting projects, ranging from creative interactive front-end experiences to advanced scalable back-end and data systems. Our team partners with global enterprise brands and high-growth startups to redefine the boundaries of digital storytelling.
We are looking for a Front-End Motion Developer who specializes in transforming static designs into cinematic, living digital environments. You are a developer with a "director’s eye," someone who understands that the way a site moves is just as important as what it says. You don't just build pages; you build experiences that feel immersive, tactile, and deep. You are an expert at using Webflow as a foundation and extending it with GSAP to create complex, non-linear, and "Z-axis" interactions that defy standard B2B web conventions.
- Architect Immersive Motion: Develop complex "scrollytelling" experiences using Webflow and GSAP (GreenSock), specifically focusing on Z-axis depth and camera-like navigation.
- Master the Z-Axis: Build and manage multi-layered parallax environments that simulate a sense of vast physical scale and discovery.
- Execute Visual and Cinematic Transitions: Implement fluid, physics-based motion and custom easing curves that ensure the experience feels high-end, weighted, and premium.
- Develop Dynamic UI Overlays: Create interactive "HUD" style interfaces and data-driven overlays that react in real-time to user scroll and cursor movement.
- Performance Optimization: Bridge the gap between high-fidelity visuals and technical performance, ensuring smooth 60fps animations even when managing large video assets or complex SVG paths.
- Advanced CMS Integration: Structure Webflow CMS collections to drive deep content exploration, allowing users to navigate through vast amounts of data seamlessly.
- Collaborative Innovation: Work closely with creative directors and visual designers to translate atmospheric metaphors into functional, performance-optimized code.
- 3 years of front-end development experience with a portfolio showcasing high-end motion work and interactive storytelling.
- Expert Webflow Mastery: Deep knowledge of Webflow’s architecture, including complex CMS structures and the ability to push the platform beyond its native Interaction (IX2) limits.
- Advanced GSAP Proficiency: Extensive experience with GSAP 3, specifically ScrollTrigger and Timeline, for creating synchronized, scroll-bound animations.
- Motion Physics Intuition: A strong understanding of timing, spacing, and easing to create natural, cinematic movement rather than "robotic" transitions.
- Performance Engineering: Proficiency in optimizing browser rendering (handling layout shifts, painting, and composite layers) to maintain high performance across devices.
- Technical Breadth: Strong command of JavaScript, CSS/HTML, and an understanding of how to integrate third-party libraries without compromising site speed.
- 3D & Canvas Experience: Familiarity with Spline or Three.js to integrate interactive 3D objects into a Webflow environment.
- Smooth-Scroll Expertise: Experience implementing frameworks like Lenis or Locomotive Scroll to control user pacing and feel.
- Visual Background: Experience in Motion Graphics (After Effects) or UI/UX design, allowing you to iterate on motion paths independently.
- Agency Experience: A background working on high-impact brand campaigns where "The Experience" is the primary goal.
- Medical / Dental / Vision Insurance.
- 401K Savings and Retirement Plan.
- Emphasis on Work-Life Balance: Set working hours and no weekend work.
- Fitness Membership Discount (Peloton stipend).
- Commuter Benefits (for NYC office employees).
- Health Savings Account.
