Hours: Per diem- Minimum 10hours/Month
Job Summary
- The Per Diem Registered Nurse provides home visiting services to postpartum mothers and newborns through the Maternal Child Health (MCH) program. The nurse will assist with 4th Trimester screening visits. This position promotes maternal recovery, newborn health, and family adjustment during the postpartum period through education, support, and clinical nursing care.
Essential Job Functions
- Conduct comprehensive maternal and newborn assessments during home visits, including vital signs, weights, physical exam, feeding evaluation, EPDS screenings and overall well-being.
- Perform home and safety assessments, reinforcing safe sleep, injury prevention, and environmental safety practices.
- Provide education, resources, and referrals to support maternal, infant, and family health (breastfeeding, newborn care, postpartum recovery, mental health, and community supports).
- Continuously develops knowledge of community resources and refers clients to appropriate resources.
- Maintain clear, accurate, and timely documentation in accordance with agency and program standards.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, infection control, and safety standards at all times.
- Demonstrate compassion, professionalism, and cultural sensitivity.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary team members to ensure holistic, family centered care.
- Continuously updates skills and knowledge base through attendance of Agency and other educational programs/resource and meets state requirements for continuing education.
- Serves as an advocate for client/families in obtaining needed services.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education/ Certifications
- Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing; current licensure in Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- Baccalaureate degree in nursing is preferred.
- Current BLS certification.
- First Aid certification.
Experience & Skills
- A minimum of two years’ clinical nursing experience, one of which is in Maternal and Child health, Postpartum, or Pediatrics nursing.
- Community nursing knowledge.
- Strong clinical assessment, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while demonstrating sound clinical judgment.
Transportation
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (with access to a personal vehicle) required for local travel.
