Mental Health Specialist- Early Intervention

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Program Director, this position provides developmental screening, assessment, direct services, and guidance to families of children from birth to three years of age who are at risk for, or experiencing, developmental delays. The role utilizes specialized skills and knowledge in psychology to support child development and family needs.

Essential Responsibilities

• Provide home-based services to families across the catchment area.
• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of all areas of infant–toddler development.
• Serve as a multidisciplinary team member in the screening and developmental assessment of children birth to three years of age who are at risk for, or experiencing, developmental delays.
• Participate in screenings, assessments, child groups, parent groups, center visits, and home visits as part of the multidisciplinary team.
• Utilize a parent coaching model when working with families.
• Provide service coordination for assigned caseloads, including coordinating the development, monitoring, and review of the Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP).
• With parental permission, collaborate with community agencies—including childcare providers, medical providers, social service agencies, and specialty providers (e.g., autism or hearing/vision specialists)—to ensure continuity of services.
• Empower families to advocate for their rights and needs.

Additional Responsibilities

• Attend all staff meetings and trainings unless excused by the supervisor.
• Use all agency communication tools, including email and phone/voicemail, to stay informed of agency activities and client needs.
• Maintain confidentiality in accordance with agency policy.
• Meet regularly with the supervisor for guidance and updates.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education

• Mental Health: Master’s degree in counseling psychology, Clinical Psychology, Developmental Psychology, or Educational Psychology OR current licensure as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or eligibility for LMHC/LMFT licensure.

Experience & Skills

• Minimum of two (2) years of pediatric experience preferred.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Google Drive, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Office 365 applications (Outlook, OneDrive, Zoom, Teams).
• Ability to use computer-based technology, including a computer/laptop and cell phone.
• Certification in infant/child CPR and First Aid.

Transportation

• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (with access to a personal vehicle) required for local travel.

Compensation and Benefits

This position offers a starting salary range of $60,000- $75,000 per year. Actual starting pay will be based on relevant skills, qualifications, and experience. The role is also eligible for an annual incentive and long-term incentive opportunities.
