Position Summary
At Perla Foods, the Material Handler - Cheese ensures that cheese products are properly prepared, delivered, and available for production while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe workspace. This role supports efficient production flow, adheres to food safety standards, and contributes to overall operational success.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Retrieve and transport cheese from the warehouse to production.
- Place cheese onto trolleys or conveyors for efficient delivery.
- Charge stuffing machines with appropriate types and amounts of cheese.
- Perform pre-production setup, ensuring work areas and equipment are ready for operation.
- Inspect cheese for quality, freshness, and compliance before use.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area, following GMPs.
- Track cheese inventory levels and report discrepancies or shortages.
- Complete production and inventory documentation accurately.
- Collaborate with production staff to ensure smooth operations and timely cheese delivery.
- Follow all safety procedures and PPE requirements.
- Lift and move objects up to 25–50 lbs safely.
- Perform repetitive tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a production environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to food safety and hygiene standards.
- Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks safely and efficiently, including lifting and transporting heavy materials.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or certification in Food Science, Quality Assurance, or related field is a plus.
- Experience in food manufacturing, regulated production, or food service.
- Familiarity with GMP, HACCP, and food safety regulations.
- Experience with basic production documentation, product inspections, or inventory tracking.
- Previous experience with packaging or stuffing machinery is a plus.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills are a plus.
Working Conditions
- Work in a food manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, moving machinery, moisture, and food products.
- Work may occur in hot, cold, or refrigerated areas (40°F–50°F).
- Employees must follow plant sanitation, hygiene, and safety policies, including wearing appropriate PPE.
- Schedule may change based on production needs, including evenings, weekends, or overtime.
Physical Requirements
- Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift and carry heavy containers of cheese (25–50 lbs or more).
- Bending, Kneeling, Stooping: Comfortable performing tasks at various levels.
- Balance: Maintain stability while moving trolleys or navigating busy areas.
- Manual Dexterity: Proficient in handling cheese, loading machines, and completing documentation.
- Repetitive Motions: Ability to perform tasks like lifting, loading, and transporting cheese consistently.
- Standing: Capable of standing for extended periods during production shifts.
Food Safety Responsibilities
All employees are responsible for supporting the company’s food safety and quality initiatives by following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), sanitation procedures, and company food safety policies. Employees must report any food safety or product quality concerns immediately to management.
