Summer Camp Counselor-Better Together
Description: The Better Together Program is organized through the Fairport School District. This is a program for children on the Autism spectrum who are eligible per school requirements. Participants are assigned classrooms with a school district teacher to focus on a Social Learning curriculum. The program runs on the school schedule and is a 6 week program, typically starting after the 4th of July and running through the middle of August. Occasionally, the Better Together Program and Perinton Recreation and Parks Playground Program will participate in an activity together on-site. Although the program may attend the same field trips, they use their own bus and stay together as a group.
Will obtain experience in the following areas:
- Planning and implanting daily camp activities
- Positive behavioral modification and supports
- First Aid and CPR training
- Accident/incident report completion
- Ability to enforce rules and policies of both Better Together and the Recreation and Parks Department
- Conflict resolution
- Team collaboration and how to be a team player
- Organization of supplies and equipment
- Being a positive role model in the life of children with special needs
Starting Date: Second week of July 2024, with the option to start July 1, 2024. Training will be the week of June 24, 2024.
Hours: 30-35 hours/week. 9:00AM – 3:00PM Monday-Friday
Location: Jefferson Avenue Elementary School 303 Jefferson Ave, Fairport NY 14450.
Qualifications: Previous experience supervising children preferred. CPR/AED Certification preferred. All candidates must have a caring and compassionate attitude along with good communication and people skills. Education: Sports and Recreation, Childhood Education, Special Education, Psychology, Recreational Therapy, Physical Education majors preferred.
Pay Rate: $15.50/hr.
