Role Description The Perfusionist is responsible for operating and managing cardiopulmonary bypass equipment and related technologies during cardiac and other surgical procedures. Day-to-day tasks include preparing perfusion equipment, monitoring patient hemodynamics, adjusting perfusion parameters, and documenting all perfusion-related activities in accordance with clinical protocols. The role involves collaborating with the surgical and anesthesia teams to plan and execute perfusion strategies, participating in quality and safety initiatives, and maintaining equipment and supplies. This is a full-time, on-site role based in the Greater Chicago Area, with potential opportunities for part-time or per diem scheduling depending on organizational needs.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in perfusion and cardiopulmonary support, including operation of heart-lung machines and related devices.
- Strong foundation in medicine and cardiovascular physiology, with the ability to interpret hemodynamic and laboratory data.
- Experience supporting cardiac surgery and other complex surgical procedures requiring circulatory or respiratory support.
- Knowledge of surgical environments and protocols, with a focus on sterile technique, safety standards, and interdisciplinary communication.
- Graduation from an accredited perfusion education program and current certification or eligibility for certification as a Clinical Perfusionist (e.g., CCP) preferred.
- Current state licensure or eligibility for licensure as required by Illinois regulations.- New grads are welcome.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound clinical decisions in high-acuity, time-sensitive situations.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and documentation skills, with a commitment to patient-centered, non-discriminatory care.
