North Reading Middle School is seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to serve as Assistant Dramatics Director for the one-act play for our middle school students. This role is to provide our students with a creative outlet and a chance to enhance their theatrical skills while fostering a supportive and engaging environment for students to explore their artistic talents and prepare for future opportunities in the performing arts.

Essential duties

  • Rehearsal Management: Lead "breakout" rehearsals with specific scenes or character groups to refine blocking and dialogue while the Lead Director works on other segments
  • Line Coaching & Notes: Assist students with line memorization and provide constructive, age-appropriate feedback on projection, diction, and emotional beats
  • Logistics: Maintain the prompt book, tracking all blocking changes, prop cues, and script revisions to ensure consistency across rehearsals
  • Student Leadership Liaison: Oversee the student stage manager and tech crew, ensuring the bridge between the acting ensemble and the "behind-the-scenes" team is seamless
  • Competition Prep: Help manage the strict "load-in/load-out" timing required for one-act festivals or competitions (often a 5-minute window)

Requirements

  • Prior experience in performing arts, play direction, and/or play producing preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and problem solve independently
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
