Job Summary
We are seeking a professional and detail-oriented Automotive Service Writer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will serve as the vital link between customers and our service department, accurately documenting vehicle issues, recommending repairs, and ensuring excellent customer service. This role requires a strong understanding of automotive systems and repair processes, along with exceptional communication skills to explain technical information clearly to clients. The Service Writer will also assist with vehicle estimates, upselling services, and managing repair orders to ensure efficient workflow and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers promptly and professionally, gathering vehicle information and explaining repair procedures.
- Write detailed service descriptions based on customer concerns and technician diagnostics.
- Prepare accurate auto estimates for repairs including oil changes, brake repairs, transmissions, alignments, suspension work, diesel engine repairs, shocks & struts, auto body repairs, air brake systems, and other automotive services.
- Upsell additional maintenance or repair services when appropriate to enhance vehicle safety and performance.
- Communicate progress to customers.
- Handle cash transactions and process payments efficiently.
- Maintain thorough documentation of all service activities in the dealership management system.
- Provide excellent customer service by explaining repair needs clearly and answering questions professionally.
- Support sales efforts by promoting vehicle maintenance packages and automobile sales when applicable.
Experience
- Prior dealership experience is highly preferred.
- Proven background in auto service management or service writing roles within automotive dealerships or repair shops.
- Strong knowledge of automotive repair including transmissions, oil changes, auto body repair, alignment, suspension systems, diesel engines, shocks & struts, brake systems, air brakes, and other mechanical repairs.
- Experience with auto estimating software and upselling techniques.
- Background in mechanic work or service technician roles is advantageous for understanding technical diagnostics.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate complex technical information clearly.
