Job Description
Performance Contracting Group is seeking an experienced Staff Accountant I for its corporate accounting & financial reporting operations based in Lenexa, KS. We're looking for an individual who is motivated, team-oriented, and enthusiastic about excelling in a stable individual contributor role, with a focus on delivering high-quality work in a fast-paced environment over the long term!
The Staff Accountant II will support maintenance of the general ledger by reconciling accounts, preparing journal entries, participating in month-end close, producing financial reports, assisting with audits, and ensuring accuracy and timeliness in all accounting activities while collaborating effectively across teams.
Reconcile sub-ledger accounts to the general ledger for all companies
Participate in the month-end close process
Create and post journal entries and perform other general accounting functions
Conduct research and utilize analytical problem-solving
Maintain attention to detail, organization, and reliability
Work effectively independently and as part of a team, emphasizing accuracy and timeliness in all tasks
Respond to Performance Contracting branch inquiries in a timely and professional manner
Prepare financial summaries and ad hoc reporting for management, as needed
Exercise technological/computer literacy and demonstrate the ability to learn new computer functionality
Work well with others through all methods of communication
Assist with external audits, including the preparation of schedules
Special projects and other assigned duties, as needed
Basic Requirements
Must have at least 1-3 years of full-time professional work experience in traditional accounting from a public accounting firm OR a private organization with at least $500MM in annual revenue
Must have a bachelor’s degree in accounting
Must have experience maintaining and reconciling a general ledger, preparing and posting journal entries, and assisting with month-end close
Must possess familiarity with Microsoft Excel (e.g., VLOOKUP, formulas, etc.)
Experience working in a high-volume accounting environment
Exhibits excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Self-starter who can effectively prioritize workloads
Demonstrated adaptability and flexibility in a fast-paced work environment
Strong ability to think critically and troubleshoot issues
Displays resourcefulness with the ability to locate information independently
Strong commitment to collaboration and experience working within a team-centric environment
Displays strong attention to detail
Preferred Requirements
Experience in public accounting is preferred
CPA is highly preferred
Construction industry experience is preferred
Local to the Kansas City metropolitan area
