About the Role
The Tax Manager is a leadership position responsible for overseeing all aspects of client tax engagements. This individual will manage a portfolio of clients, ensure high-quality service delivery, and provide strategic tax planning and compliance services. The role requires advanced technical skills, strong project management abilities, and a commitment to mentoring junior staff.
Responsibilities
- Engagement management: Manage multiple client tax engagements, ensuring timely completion and adherence to quality standards.
- Tax preparation and review: Review complex federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts, and estates.
- Tax planning and strategy: Develop and implement strategic tax plans for clients to minimize liabilities and identify tax-saving opportunities.
- Client relations: Act as a primary point of contact for clients, provide expert advice, and build long-term relationships.
- Technical research: Perform extensive tax research on complex issues and effectively communicate findings to clients and the engagement team.
- IRS and state correspondence: Handle and resolve notices, inquiries, and audits from tax authorities.
- Team leadership and development: Mentor, train, and supervise tax staff and seniors, providing constructive feedback and fostering a culture of professional growth.
- Business development: Assist partners in identifying and cultivating new client opportunities to help grow the firm's practice.
- Process improvement: Recommend and implement enhancements to firm processes and technology to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field required. A Master's degree in Taxation is preferred.
- Certification: Active and valid Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is required.
- Experience: A minimum of 8 years of progressive tax experience within a public accounting firm.
- Technical expertise: In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations. Expertise in various tax return types, including individual, corporate, partnership, trust, and estate. Proficiency with tax preparation software (e.g., CCH, ProSystem fx) and Microsoft Excel.
- Soft skills: Excellent communication, interpersonal, and writing skills. Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. Strong project and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines. Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to motivate and coach team members.
Pay range and compensation package
$150,000 - $160,000
