What are the responsibilities and job description for the Journeyman Plumber position at Perfect Service plumbing and drain cleaning?
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced, licensed Journeyman Plumber for a project-focused role. The core of the work is whole-home repipes, water main replacements, sewer replacements, remodel rough-ins, and water heater installations, with diagnostic and repair calls as needed. The ideal candidate is able to manage projects independently from rough-in through inspection and final, works directly with ownership on estimates and scheduling, and takes pride in delivering code-compliant, high-quality installations.
Responsibilities
Perform whole-home repipes (PEX and copper) in occupied residential homes, from layout and demo coordination through pressure testing, inspection, and drywall-ready finish
Install and replace water service lines, main shut-offs, and pressure regulating valves
Perform sewer line replacements (trench and trenchless) alongside excavation work
Install tank and tankless water heaters, including gas line, venting, and code upgrades
Handle remodel and fixture rough-in work: bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms
Pull permits, schedule inspections, and pass them the first time
Walk customers through the scope of work and keep them informed on multi-day projects
Document work in our field service software: photos, notes, serial numbers, and job status updates
Maintain company tools, equipment, and vehicle
Follow the Oregon Plumbing Specialty Code and all site safety protocols
Qualifications
Active Oregon Journeyman Plumber (JP) license in good standing — required
8 years of plumbing experience, with a strong background in residential projects and repipes
Hands-on repipe experience (PEX-A or PEX-B and copper) in occupied homes
Experience running projects independently: materials, sequencing, inspections
Comfortable reading plans and performing code-compliant gas piping and venting work
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in crawl spaces, attics, and trenches
Professional attitude and clear communication with homeowners throughout multi-day projects
Nice to Have
Trenchless sewer replacement (pipe bursting) experience
Experience mentoring an apprentice
Pre-Employment Requirements
All offers of employment are contingent upon the successful completion of a background check. This may include a review of criminal history, driving record, license verification with the Oregon Building Codes Division, and employment verification. We conduct background screenings in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, including Oregon's Ban the Box legislation. A criminal record does not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment — all results are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
