Responsibilities

Join Peraton in advancing the safety, efficiency, and modernization of the National Airspace System (NAS) through the FAA’s Business, National Airspace, and Technical Computing Services (BNATCS) contract. As a trusted partner to the Federal Aviation Administration, Peraton helps deliver the systems and services that keep our nation’s skies safe and connected.

We’re looking for innovative professionals who thrive in mission-critical environments and are passionate about shaping the future of air traffic management. This is your chance to make an impact on one of the world’s most vital transportation infrastructures, working alongside leaders in aviation, engineering, data science, and systems integration.

At Peraton, you won’t just support the mission — you’ll define it.

Join a team dedicated to protecting the safety and integrity of U.S. air travel. Peraton is seeking an accomplished Electrical Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide technical oversight, design review, and systems evaluation support for Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) modernization and infrastructure programs. This role focuses on site survey activities, power systems and circuits, and testing, diagnostics, and instrumentation that ensure the operational integrity of critical FAA facilities and systems supporting the National Airspace System (NAS).

In this position, you will:

  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor—guiding engineering design, performing system evaluations, and verifying that all installations and upgrades meet FAA standards for safety, reliability, and performance.
  • Lead and conduct site surveys of FAA facilities to assess existing electrical infrastructure and readiness for modernization.
  • Provide technical expertise in power systems, circuits, grounding, and electrical distribution networks.
  • Perform system evaluations, diagnostic testing, and failure analysis to identify risks and recommend corrective actions.
  • Oversee instrumentation and measurement activities, ensuring accuracy and calibration integrity for test equipment.
  • Review and validate electrical design documents, schematics, and circuit layouts for compliance with FAA and NEC standards.
  • Support installation planning, load analysis, and power quality assessments across multiple FAA sites.
  • Develop technical reports, risk assessments, and mitigation recommendations for FAA leadership.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (mechanical, civil, and IT engineering) to ensure system integration and performance.
  • Support system commissioning, acceptance testing, and ongoing maintenance evaluations.
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to field teams on testing methodologies, diagnostic procedures, and safety compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and execute testing and acceptance protocols for critical systems.
  • Experience preparing audit-ready technical documentation for compliance reviews.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with contractors, site personnel, and project managers.

Why This Role Matters

The FAA’s mission to ensure safe and efficient airspace operations depends on reliable and well-engineered electrical systems across radar facilities, communication centers, and airport control infrastructure. As an Electrical SME, your work ensures that power, control, and grounding systems supporting FAA operations are properly designed, tested, and maintained. You will help advance the FAA’s modernization efforts while safeguarding the operational continuity of national aviation systems that millions depend on daily.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship Required.
  • Must have the ability to obtain / maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Bachelors degree and 12 years of experience or Master's Degree and 10 years’ experience or a High School Diploma and 16 years of experience.
  • 10 years of experience in electrical systems design, power distribution, or systems diagnostics.
  • Proven expertise in power systems and circuits, including low, medium, and high-voltage systems.
  • Experience conducting site surveys, field inspections, and infrastructure assessments.
  • Hands-on experience with testing, diagnostics, and instrumentation tools used in electrical validation and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code), IEEE standards, and FAA facility design requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Familiarity with load flow analysis, grounding systems, and short-circuit coordination studies.
  • Knowledge of backup power systems, including UPS, generators, and transfer switches.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exposure to FAA programs or NAS systems.
  • Experience supporting federal, aviation, or government logistics operations.
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Power Systems.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred.
  • Professional certifications such as IEEE Senior Member, NETA Level III/IV Technician, or PMP.
  • Experience supporting FAA NextGen, NAS facility modernization, or radar/communication site electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with HVAC electrical integration, SCADA systems, and industrial automation.
  • Knowledge of arc flash analysis, relay testing, and protection coordination.
