POSITION TITLE: Software Engineering Instructor, MERN Stack

LOCATION: Bronx Campus, NY- In Person, 40 hours a week required

REPORTS TO: RTT Leader

Type: Full Time (Contract About 27 weeks)

Contract: 08/2024 - 03/2025

Who We’re Looking For

Per Scholas is seeking a Software Engineering (MERN) instructor to become a member of our Training Team. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, problem-solving individual with strong technical and instructional skills, demonstrates the ability to adapt quickly to a dynamic environment, and maintains a strong sense of accountability. To succeed in this role, candidates must be business-minded within our mission focus and excel in instructional delivery that meets clients’ and learners’ high expectations. This is an in person position

What You’ll Do

  • Support instructor-led training that prepares students for entry-level to mid-level careers in Software Engineering (MERN). Responsibilities include daily instruction, assessment administration, attendance, one-on-one tutoring, daily evaluation and monitoring of individual student progress, addressing student violations with students in a consistent manner, and more.
  • Provide students with access to relevant resources for outside learning on technologies and study aids relevant to the curriculum.
  • Work closely with the team to identify student needs, provide the necessary support, establish individualized plans for student achievement, and participate in regular student-status meetings.
  • Maintain and update Salesforce and/or our LMS with student grades, certification scores, and progress notes.
  • Support and maintain the training curricula, syllabi, lesson plans, and other classroom materials.


What You’ll Bring To Us

Instructional Skill Sets

  • 1-3 years of teaching or training experience
  • Strong technical background; able to grasp and convey highly technical subject matter
  • Ability to respond clearly to live digital conversations via a digital engagement platform such as Zoom or an in-person training environment


Strong communication skills

Required Skill Sets

  • Knowledge and two years of experience in MERN Full Stack Development with HTML/CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, Browser Developer Tools, ReactJS, Node.js, etc.
  • Experience working with SQL or NoSQL data sources (MongoDB, etc.)
  • Experience in Python programming
  • Experience building server-side HTTP / RESTful applications for CRUD operations
  • Git/GitHub experience, including merging, rebasing, and pull requests
  • A working knowledge of Software Engineering principles and development methodologies with the ability to explain trade-offs and best practices
  • Strong technical background; able to grasp and convey the highly technical subject matter
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team and in a self-directed independent capacity with excellent planning and time management skills
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to coordinate and prioritize effectively
  • Ability to transform dry technical topics into engaging, informative, and interesting educational materials


Preferred Skill Sets

  • Experience with CI/CD with knowledge of Git Hub, Maven, and Jenkins
  • Experience with implementing integration solutions with Microservices, RESTful Web Services, and Web APIs
  • Experience or working knowledge with Redux
  • Experience as a technical lead on projects
  • Knowledge or experience using Figma
  • Ability to lead in an Agile environment
  • Loves to learn, collaborates efficiently, shares knowledge, and is happy to cover new and temporary projects when needed
  • Experience with Full Stack Java Development, Java SE, Java EE, Spring Boot, SQL


Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent practical/industry experience)
  • Strong technical aptitude (Google Sheets/Excel, Slides/PowerPoint, Salesforce, Slack, Zoom, etc.), project management, and organizational skills with detailed follow-through abilities.
  • Excellent written communication, presentation, and customer service skills
  • Solid understanding of business needs
  • Strong evaluation and data management skills
  • Prior knowledge or background in IT (if minimal, a desire and willingness to learn what’s needed) and a passion for technology are a plus

Compensation

For this role specifically, we are targeting a salary range of $60/hour where the difference in salary is typically determined by several factors, including geography in which the selected candidate resides, and alignment with qualifications and experience.
