The Quality Assurance (QA) Technician is responsible for ensuring products manufactured within the Processing and Mixing Departments meet established food safety, quality, regulatory, and customer specifications. This position performs inspections, testing, documentation, and process verification while working closely with Mixing and Processing teams to maintain compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), HACCP, SQF, FDA regulations, and company quality standards.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Perform quality inspections throughout the mixing and processing operations.
- Verify all ingredients are correct according to approved formulations and batch sheets.
- Conduct and document quality checks.
- Verify proper ingredient weighing and addition during batching.
- Monitor control points as outlined in HACCP plans.
- Confirm processing and mixing employees are following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Verify proper lot coding and product traceability.
- Ensure documentation is accurate and complete.
- Monitor compliance with GMPs, HACCP, SQF requirements, FDA Food Safety Regulations, Company Food Safety Programs
- Report food safety concerns immediately.
- Maintain accurate records.
- Inspect, verify, and review proper operation equipment as specified by SOPs.
- Notify QA Management, Processing Management, and Mixing Management of deviations.
- Assist with investigations and corrective actions.
- Participate in Root Cause Analysis investigations
- Recommend improvements to production processes
- Support internal and external audits
- Assist with new product trials and validation activities
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of HACCP principles
- Understanding of SQF or GFSI Food Safety Systems
- Knowledge of GMPs and sanitation practices
- Basic mathematical skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent written documentation skills
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work independently
- Strong problem-solving abilities
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office and ERP systems)
Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Associate degree in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, or related field preferred.
- 1–3 years of Quality Assurance experience in food manufacturing preferred.
- Experience in sauce, beverage, or food processing manufacturing is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of FDA food regulations preferred.
- Preferred certifications: HACCP Certification, SQF Practitioner Training, Food Safety Certification
Physical Requirements:
- Occasionally lifting 50lbs for sample shipments.
- Standing for extended periods of time.
