What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Baseball Umpire position at Peoria Park District?
Duties: Under the supervision of the Athletics Coordinator, the Youth Baseball Umpire is responsible for the following:
- Ensures the game is played according to the rules, making fair and consistent judgments on plays such as strikes, outs, and rule violations.
- Manages the flow of the game, ensure player safety, and address any disputes or unsportsmanlike behavior on the field.
- Umpiring for different youth divisions:
- Coach Pitch (ages 6-8)
- Minor Leagues (ages 9 and 10)
- Major Leagues (ages 11 and 12)
- Pony (ages 13 and 14)
- Follows all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed; supports all aspects of the Park District's safety program.
- Performs all other duties as required.
Essential Functions: Must be able to be on your feet for multiple consecutive hours, run, jump, and lift up to 45 pounds.
Qualifications:Experience: Previous experience is a plus, but not required
Certification: Umpire Certification preferred but not required.
Knowledge and Ability:
- Understanding of basic philosophy surrounding the game of baseball, and the ability to interpret that to staff and public.
- Ability to be punctual, dependable, and trustworthy.
- Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers.
- Ability to work harmoniously with the public and fellow employees in an enthusiastic, cooperative, and productive manner. Demonstrate great customer service.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
