Airport Gift Shop Cashier

Duties: Under the supervision of the Gift Shop Manager, the Gift Shop Cashier is responsible for the following:

• Selling admissions accurately and efficiently. Actively solicit membership sales and all other appropriate tickets/offers.
• Selling all gift shop items accurately and efficiently.
• Receiving and tagging merchandise.
• Stocking gift shop shelves.
• Keeping all gift shop areas and work spaces clean and "visitor friendly". 
• Attending to all customer needs/problems in a prompt & courteous manner.
• Answering phone calls; relaying any necessary messages to staff.
• Checking messages and work schedule at start of shift.
• Opening registers and preparation of assigned area if opening the shop. 
• Closing out registers and other devices at the end of the business day and transferring money and appropriate paperwork to supervisor. 
• Cleaning assigned areas at end of business day to established standards.
• Assisting in preparation of deposits and associated record keeping.
• Inventorying gift shop stock on a regular basis and making reports.
• Checking supplies of all brochures/other informational items and replenishing displays as necessary.
• Following all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed. Supporting all aspects of the Park District’s safety program.
• Wearing proper designated uniform.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions: The work requires some physical exertion in handling supplies, equipment and materials. Prolonged standing, bending and stooping, and ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds is required on a periodic basis. The programmed activities involve everyday risk, which require normal safety precautions typical of the recreation industry.

Education: A minimum of two years of high school.

Experience: Experience working with computers and handling money. Experience in retail and/or customer service preferred.

Knowledge and Ability:

• Ability to accurately handle money. 
• Aptitude for on-the-job training and ability to follow both written and oral instructions. 
• Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers.
• Personal: Must have a pleasing personality and courteous manner. Must be dependable and have good customer service skills.
