Position Summary
The Plant Manager is responsible for directing and overseeing all aspects of plant operations to ensure the efficient, safe, and high-quality production of company products. This role provides strategic and operational leadership across production, maintenance, quality control, and shipping functions. The Plant Manager is accountable for meeting production goals, managing costs, ensuring compliance with quality standards and safety regulations, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. This position works closely with executive leadership to align plant operations with organizational objectives and maintain Postle Industries’ commitment to product excellence and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Operations Management
• Provide overall leadership and direction for all plant operations, ensuring production goals are met in terms of output, quality, cost, and delivery timelines.
• Develop and execute short- and long-term operational plans to optimize production efficiency and resource utilization.
• Oversee and manage plant budgets, cost controls, and capital improvement projects.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory standards.
Product Quality Review and Management
• Oversee all aspects of product quality management, ensuring products consistently meet or exceed internal and customer specifications.
• Lead regular product quality reviews to identify trends, root causes, and corrective actions.
• Implement and maintain robust quality management systems (QMS) and documentation to support traceability, compliance, and continuous improvement.
• Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for quality metrics, including defect rates, rework levels, and customer returns.
• Collaborate with R&D team to assess process changes, material substitutions, and new product introductions for quality impact.
• Ensure customer feedback and complaints are promptly reviewed, investigated, and resolved through corrective and preventive actions.
Team Development and Performance
• Lead, coach, and develop production staff to build a skilled, engaged, and safety-conscious workforce.
• Promote accountability, teamwork, and a culture of continuous improvement across all departments.
• Conduct performance reviews, identify training needs, and facilitate career development opportunities.
Safety and Compliance
• Enforce strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations, ensuring a safe workplace for all employees.
• Maintain and continuously improve safety programs, inspections, and reporting systems.
• Foster a proactive safety culture through communication, training, and recognition initiatives.
Continuous Improvement and Innovation
• Drive operational excellence through lean manufacturing, process improvement, and waste reduction initiatives.
• Evaluate and implement new technologies, automation, and process upgrades to improve efficiency and product quality.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to align production capabilities with business growth and customer demands.
Reporting and Communication
• Prepare and present plant performance reports, production metrics, and improvement plans to senior management.
• Serve as the primary liaison between plant operations and leadership team.
• Maintain effective communication across departments to ensure alignment and transparency in production goals and performance.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; a technical degree or related certification is preferred.
- Prior supervisory experience in a manufacturing or production environment strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in reading technical documentation including specifications, schematics, and manuals.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to relay information clearly across all levels of the organization.
- Competence in basic mathematics and analytical problem-solving.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team, manage conflict, and motivate staff.
- Familiarity with health and safety regulations and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ability to work flexible hours, including overtime and weekends as needed.
- Experience with material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, dollies, and shrink-wrap machines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel occasionally as required by the role.
