About the role:
The Jr. Commercial & Ag Loan Officer supports the bank’s commercial and agricultural lending activities while developing the knowledge and skills necessary to independently manage customer relationships and loan portfolios. This position works closely with experienced lenders, credit staff, and bank leadership to assist with loan origination, analysis, underwriting, documentation, and servicing.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working directly with customers. This role requires strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to learn and apply lending policies, procedures, technology, and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Assist lenders with the origination and processing of new loans.
- Develop an understanding of commercial and agricultural lending products, credit policies, and loan structures.
- Review loan applications and supporting documentation for completeness and accuracy.
- Analyze financial information, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow information, and other borrower financial records.
- Assist with financial analysis and credit underwriting to evaluate a borrower’s ability to repay.
- Support the preparation of loan presentations, credit memorandums, and other documentation for loan approval.
- Assist with structuring commercial and agricultural loans in accordance with the bank’s lending policies and risk guidelines.
- Work with borrowers to gather financial information and other documentation needed throughout the loan process.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with existing and prospective commercial and agricultural customers.
- Provide responsive, professional service and communicate loan requirements and status clearly to customers.
- Monitor loan documentation and follow up on outstanding items to help ensure timely processing and closing.
- Maintain accurate and organized loan files and customer records.
- Learn and effectively utilize the bank’s loan origination, processing, and other lending software.
- Follow bank policies, procedures, and applicable federal and state regulations related to lending and regulatory compliance.
- Identify potential issues, use critical thinking to evaluate solutions, and escalate concerns appropriately.
- Assist with ongoing loan servicing and portfolio management activities as assigned.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities to build commercial and agricultural lending expertise.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, agriculture, or a related field preferred; equivalent banking or lending experience may be considered.
- 3 years of related experience.
- Basic understanding of the loan origination process.
- Understanding of financial statements, including balance sheets and income statements.
- Familiarity with commercial lending and the fundamentals of loan structuring.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective time management skills and ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities.
- Ability to learn and effectively use loan processing and other banking software.
- Familiarity with banking and lending regulatory compliance requirements.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling customer and financial information.
- Ability to work collaboratively with lenders, credit staff, operations, and other bank employees.
