Scope of Position

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating maintenance operations to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable performance of plant production equipment, support systems, and facility assets. This role provides direct supervision of maintenance personnel, oversees preventive and corrective maintenance activities, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and helps maintain inventory and equipment records to maximize operational uptime and productivity.

The Maintenance Supervisor partners closely with Operations, Engineering, and Plant Leadership to ensure maintenance activities align with production goals, safety standards, quality requirements, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, coach, and develop maintenance technicians to achieve departmental and plant objectives.
  • Assign daily work schedules and maintenance priorities based on operational needs and production requirements.
  • Adjust staffing assignments and maintenance activities as needed to respond to equipment failures, emergencies, and changing business priorities.
  • Communicate maintenance performance, progress, challenges, and resource needs to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.

Maintenance Operations

  • Oversee the installation, repair, troubleshooting, and maintenance of production equipment, utility systems, and facility infrastructure.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting support for mechanical and electrical issues beyond the scope of operating personnel.
  • Develop and implement corrective action plans to address recurring equipment failures and improve reliability.
  • Ensure maintenance activities are completed efficiently while minimizing production downtime.

Preventive Maintenance & Continuous Improvement

  • Execute and monitor assigned components of the plant’s Preventive Maintenance (PM) Program.
  • Assist in the development, enhancement, and continuous improvement of preventive and predictive maintenance processes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, maintenance effectiveness, and overall plant performance.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, equipment histories, and work order documentation.

Inventory & Asset Management

  • Assist in managing maintenance inventory, including parts ordering, stocking levels, and component standardization.
  • Maintain accurate records of purchased parts, company assets, and equipment repair history.
  • Support cost control efforts through effective inventory management and maintenance planning.
  • Coordinate purchasing activities in accordance with company procedures and approval requirements.

Safety, Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all company safety, health, environmental, quality, GMP, and operational policies and procedures.
  • Lead by example in promoting safe work practices and enforcing safety standards.
  • Participate in plant safety audits and corrective action initiatives.
  • Assist in identifying and eliminating workplace hazards and equipment-related safety deficiencies.
  • Ensure equipment and facilities remain compliant with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Support plant projects, equipment upgrades, and facility improvement initiatives as assigned.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to drive operational excellence and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Travel up to 25% as required.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, Manufacturing, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant maintenance experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory or management experience in maintenance or operations within a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to motivate, coach, and develop employees.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance systems, troubleshooting industrial equipment, and maintenance planning.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and industrial maintenance systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, equipment manuals, and schematics.
  • Proficiency with computer systems, maintenance software, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work effectively under pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while fostering collaboration across departments.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement principles.
  • Ability to maintain regular, predictable, and punctual attendance.
