Heavy Equipment Operator

Location: Mt. Airy, MD
Job Type: Full‑Time | Direct Hire
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Pay: $26.00–$34.00 per hour (based on experience)
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to join a growing construction team. This role is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment in support of electrical and utility construction projects.
Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment including excavators, skid steers, backhoes, trenchers, augers, and trench rollers
• Perform trenching, excavation, backfill, and material handling safely and accurately
• Assist with installation of electrical duct banks, concrete pads, pole bases, and conduit
• Support ground crew with grading, elevations, and general labor when not operating equipment
• Read and interpret blueprints, layouts, and utility drawings
• Inspect equipment daily and report maintenance or safety issues
• Load and unload equipment and materials at job sites
• Follow all safety regulations and company procedures
• Work outdoors at various job sites and weather conditions

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum 5 years of heavy equipment operating experience in construction or utilities
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
• Ability to read and understand blueprints and diagrams
• Strong understanding of job‑site safety practices
• Physically able to perform manual labor and lift up to 40 lbs
• Reliable, detail‑oriented, and team‑focused
