Position Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides hands-on support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. DSPs assist with daily living activities, community integration, and skill development, while promoting independence and ensuring each person’s safety and well-being.
Key Responsibilities
Provide personal care such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and hygiene.- Assist with household tasks including meal preparation, laundry, and light cleaning.
- Support clients with medication reminders and following their care or behavior support plans.
- Accompany clients to appointments, errands, and community activities.
- Encourage independence, personal growth, and community participation.
- Maintain accurate documentation of care and progress.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, family members, and care teams.
- Report any incidents, health changes, or safety concerns promptly.
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of experience working with individuals with disabilities or in a caregiving role.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and current auto insurance (if transporting clients).
- Ability to pass background check.
- Must complete all required onbarding training and certifications.
Compassionate, dependable, and patient demeanor with strong communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with ECF CHOICES, DIDD, or HCBS programs.
Familiarity with behavioral support and electronic documentation systems.
