Job Summary
The person in this position must be aware that they represent the bank as the front-line contact with our customers. Good communication skills are required and necessary in this role. The person in this position represents the bank not only by being knowledgeable of the job duties, but also by maintaining a professional appearance and mannerism. The person assigned to this job should possess a level of maturity that allows them to function professionally even when confronted with unpleasant customer situations.
Essential Functions of the Job
· Serves as a first point of contact for the bank by greeting our customers and providing excellent customer service, whether it be in-person or over the phone.
· Maintains records and documentation of conversations and uses knowledge and understanding of the processing systems to meet the customer's needs.
· Uses active listening skills to respond promptly and accurately to customers and their needs.
· Educates customers on bank products, features, and benefits while communicating product information using easy to understand methods.
· Uses knowledge of banking products to recommend bank products that can provide financial solutions to customers.
· Establishes and maintains basic bank accounts and products at the request of new and existing customers.
· Analyzes and deciphers problems to determine proper course of action.
· Works with other areas within the bank to resolve routine account and/or customer service issues.
· Engages bank administrative and operations support staff where appropriate to assist with issue resolution and follows-up with customers to ensure completion.
· Engages bank customers to build and retain their assets with the bank, and probes to understand reasons for asset flight.
· Uncovers routine sales opportunities and markets bank products to customers.
· Must be willing and able to work 40 weekly hours with a minimum of two Saturdays per month (8:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.).
· Adherence to BSA/AML is required.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Job Qualifications
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend basic instructions, correspondence, and memos. Proficient knowledge of business English, spelling, and punctuation. Ability to proofread and make corrections to a variety of legal documentation and information, including medical information. Ability to file information accurately and write basic correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, staff, and vendors.
Office Skills
Knowledge of bank practices and procedures. Ability to organize, efficiently document, and routinely update information. Ability to apply procedures to work problems and situations. Must be able to adapt, prioritize, and collaborate with team members. Ability to multitask, problem solve and demonstrate time management skills.
Math/Accounting Skills
Solid understanding of basic accounting principles. The employee must have the ability to do the following: Calculate, post, and manage accounting figures and financial records; Data entry skills; Accurately add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Equipment/Computer Skills
The employee must have the ability to operate and trouble-shoot equipment and software packages with proficiency including but not limited to: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook; Desktop computers including basic navigation, file storage, internet searches; copiers, scanners, postage machines, and calculating devices. They will also have the ability to efficiently and accurately type various documents and correspondence.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required include close, mid-range and distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to circulate a room and stand for up to two hours at a time. The employee will need to be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and lift and/or move up to 30 pounds when necessary.
Education
A high school diploma or equivalent certificate is expected for this position. Any person accepted for this position should have previous bank teller experience to help them understand the services the bank offers and to familiarize them with the various products available.
