PeopleReady Skilled Trades is currently hiring an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator - Helper to support a large contractor in the greater Charleston, SC area. This role offers the opportunity to work on diverse and impactful construction projects across multiple sectors, including commercial, healthcare, industrial and energy, infrastructure, institutional, and residential.
As a Heavy Equipment Operator - Helper, you will assist in the operation, maintenance, and setup of heavy machinery while supporting skilled operators and crews to ensure projects are completed efficiently and safely. This is a hands-on role where you’ll play a critical part in site preparation, material movement, and maintaining smooth operations on active worksites.
In this role, you’ll earn $16.00 to $20.03 an hour, enjoy weekly pay, health insurance benefits, and a flexible work schedule. Key Responsibilities:
- Support heavy equipment operators in the safe and efficient operation of machinery, including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, rollers, and other equipment.
- Assist in site preparation, including clearing debris, leveling ground, and staging materials as well as setting silt fencing or simmilart tasks.
- Perform spotting duties to ensure safe and accurate operation of heavy machinery.
- Help with equipment setup, basic troubleshooting, and maintenance tasks.
- Monitor job site conditions and communicate potential hazards to team members.
- Assist with loading and unloading materials and equipment as needed.
- Work collaboratively with operators and crew members to meet project goals.
- Follow all safety guidelines and regulations while working on active construction sites.

Experience:
- Previous experience in construction, general labor, or assisting heavy equipment operators is a plus but not required.
Skills:
- Ability to follow directions and work in a team environment.
- Familiarity with construction sites and basic safety practices.
- Willingness to learn and assist in operating heavy equipment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform outdoor tasks in varying weather and terrain conditions.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and walk for extended periods throughout the day with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
Certifications:
- Possession of OSHA-10 certification is a plus (or willingness to obtain).
- Valid driver’s license preferred.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to pass background checks, drug tests, and entry courses as needed for each site worked.
