The IT Operations Manager is responsible for the planning, oversight, security, and day-to-day
reliability of Suffolk Transportation’s information technology environment. This role owns IT
operations, cybersecurity posture, network architecture, vendor management, and standards,
and provides leadership and direction to IT support staff.
Role Alignment
The IT Operations Manager supervises IT Specialists and serves as the escalation point for
security incidents, infrastructure issues, and systemic technical problems. The role retains
ownership of strategy, architecture, policy, and vendor decisions, while delegating execution
and frontline support to IT Specialists.

Key Responsibilities
IT Operations & Leadership
- Lead daily IT operations ensuring system uptime and reliability.
- Prioritize workloads and supervise IT Specialists.
- Establish standards, procedures, and documentation.
- Own cybersecurity strategy including endpoint protection, MFA, firewalls, and monitoring.
- Direct incident response and vulnerability remediation efforts.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and audit requirements.
- Design and approve network and fiber architecture.
- Oversee switches, routers, wireless, VPNs, and firewall environments.
- Coordinate with ISPs and vendors for upgrades and outages.
- Manage IT vendors, contracts, and licensing.
- Develop budgets and lifecycle replacement plans.
- 5 years of progressive IT infrastructure or operations experience.
- Demonstrated experience managing networks, cybersecurity, and IT staff.
- Strong knowledge of Windows, Microsoft 365, and enterprise networking.
- Experience in transportation, logistics, or multi-site environments.
- Cybersecurity or network certifications.
