What are the responsibilities and job description for the Editor position at People Newspapers?
People Newspapers is seeking an Editor who will oversee and steward the publication of our two monthly community newspapers: Park Cities People and Preston Hollow People as well as ancillary publications both in print and online. This individual will work closely with the two managing editors and the production department in planning the editorial content for print and digital.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage the managing editors and a team of freelance writers and photographers, planning content for print and digital
- Work closely with Production and others to slot stories onto pages
- Assign and edit stories for both editions
- Work with writers on story and special section development
- Write and edit stories produced by managing editors and freelancers
- Work collaboratively with Publisher and Production on developing special sections and story packages
- Oversee all content both in print and digital, ensure fact-checking.
- Be as voice for the paper in the community, getting to know City/Town and school boards, attending events and being involved
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree several years of newsroom journalism experience
- Employee management experience preferred
- Exceptional organizational, written and verbal communication skills
- Loyal, honest, high-energy, driven, strong work ethic, good sense of humor
- Candidates must live in the Dallas area.
