What are the responsibilities and job description for the Powertrain PLC controls engineer position at Pentangle Tech Services | P5 Group?
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and tune control strategies for acceleration and transient response, including gear shifts, transitions, coasting, and engine braking.
- Optimize low-speed drivability and maneuverability (light pedal response, grade performance, load sensitivity).
- Support cold start calibration across different fuel blends and altitude conditions.
- Implement and refine cruise control and altitude performance strategies (drivability, low speed, acceleration, deceleration).
- Conduct launch (idle governor) tuning for rear axle ratio ranges and transmission variants, collaborating with suppliers.
- Calibrate extended idle performance (desorb and soot management).
- Develop PTO gain tuning strategies for customer-specific applications.
- Apply torque limiting controls with brake application and powertrain component limits (gear, axle shaft, etc.).
- Support system integration, including CAN communication and subsystem diagnostic communication.
- Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience with powertrain control systems and calibration.
- Strong understanding of engine, transmission, drivability, and vehicle dynamics.
- Proficiency in CAN communication tools, diagnostic communication, and calibration software.
- Excellent problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills.
