Role Overview – Stamping & Plastics (Development)
This role focuses on stamping development and feasibility for exterior body components (Class A surfaces). The work involves early-stage collaboration with design teams, surfacing, and simulation to ensure manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
- Work from early design sketches in collaboration with engineering/design teams
- Perform surfacing and modeling in CATIA (V5/V6)
- Run AutoForm simulations to assess part feasibility and formability
- Evaluate:
- Manufacturability of parts
- Cost effectiveness of designs
- Support development of Class A exterior body panels (with occasional door/floor components)
- Handle multiple projects simultaneously in a high-volume workload environment
- Present and summarize feasibility findings to stakeholders
- Gain exposure to the die structure / manufacturing tooling side
Required Experience
- Class A stamping part feasibility experience
- Strong experience with CATIA V5 or V6 (surfacing/modeling required—not just basic use)
- Experience running AutoForm simulations and interpreting results
- Understanding of formability and stamping processes
- General manufacturing background (stamping, die design, or tooling)
- Typically 3 years of relevant experience
Skill Set Breakdown (Ideal Team Balance)
- One candidate stronger in:
- Die processing / tooling side
- One candidate stronger in:
- CATIA surfacing AutoForm simulations
Travel
- Occasional plant travel (limited)
- Potential visits to:
- ELP (East Liberty Plant)
- MAP (Marysville Auto Plant)
- Possible travel to Alabama
Screening Questions
- What is your experience with Class A stamping part feasibility?
- Have you performed surfacing/modeling in CATIA? (Explain depth of experience)
- What is your experience with AutoForm simulations?
- What is your manufacturing background (stamping, die design, tooling, etc.)?
