Penrickton Center for Blind Children is now hiring hard working and motivated child care workers/teachers for part-timeafternoon positions (2 days a week) at our unique non-profit agency serving blind, special needs children ages 1-12 years. The ideal candidate for these positions enjoys working with special needs children, understands child development, works well as a member of a team, and is dedicated to promoting independence in a creative learning environment. If you are pursuing a career in teaching, nursing, occupational or physical therapy, speech pathology, medicine, or other education and healthcare professions, we encourage you to apply, as this position provides relevant hands on experience for students pursuing college degrees.
Job duties and responsibilities include:
- Promote developmental learning by providing appropriate daily play activities
- Promote increased independence in activities of daily living
- Participation in outdoor play activities
- Collaborate with therapists and supervisory staff to set reachable and attainable goals for children
- Communicate with parents and keep them informed about their child's development and daily routine
- Provide continuous supervision of children enrolled at a ratio of one teacher/child care worker to every three children, ensuring their health and safety
- Assist with maintaining the room and play areas in a clean, orderly, and safe condition
- Document daily observations of children’s behavior and activities
- Maintain appropriate confidential records.
- Act as role model to children, and maintain a professional child care team member demeanor
Part-time afternoon positions available are for the following shifts:
- Wednesday 12:30 pm to 9:00pm ( hours change to 3:30-9:00pm September - May) AND Friday 12:30 pm to 7:00 pm (hours change to 3:30 -7:00 pm September -May)
- Tuesday 12:30 to 9:00 pm (hours change to 3:30-9:00 pm September - May) AND Friday 12:30 to 7:00 pm ( hours change to 3:30-7:00 pm September - May)
- Thursday 12:30 pm to 9:00 pm (hours change to 3:30-9:00 pm September - May) AND Friday 12:30-7:00 pm ( hours change to 3:30-7:00 pm September - May)
- Additional fill-in hours available
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be 18 years or older
- High school diploma or equivalent degree required (some college preferred)
- Be free from felony conviction & willing to complete finger print and background screening
- Valid driver's license and willing to obtain chauffer's license
- Able to lift 40 lbs.
