Pay Range: $17.53 - $31.61

Status/Term: Full-time, Grant Specific, 1-year

Job Summary:

The Penobscot Nation is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Sustainable Energy Coordinator / Offshore Wind Liaison that will identify, and track issues, opportunities, and developments related to offshore wind and other sustainable energy projects as they arise. The Sustainable Energy Coordinator / Offshore Wind Liaison assumes primary responsibility for the Penobscot Nation’s engagement with the offshore wind industry and other assigned duties within that role. The Sustainable Energy Coordinator / Offshore Wind Liaison is responsible for communicating with the tribal public, natural resources director, economic development director, cultural department, Wabanaki sustainable energy coordinator, Chief and Council, and to help inform the Penobscot Nation about their findings. The Sustainable Energy Coordinator / Offshore Wind Liaison will also communicate with other Wabanaki tribes and federal, state, and NGO partners about sustainable energy, offshore wind, and other topics as they arise. Finally, the Sustainable Energy Coordinator / Offshore Wind Liaison will implement strategies aligned with the Penobscot Nation’s Interdepartmental Strategic Energy Plan.

Qualifications Required:

Required Skills:

· A minimum of an Associates degree in communications, environmental policy, or a related field with a background in environmental science and/or offshore wind required. Bachelors preferred.

· Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

· Self-direction, organization, motivation, and attention to detail.

· Ability to travel overnight and to Canada.

· Maine driver’s license or the ability to acquire one upon employment.

Preferred Skills:

· Working knowledge of MS Office and ESRI (or similar) products.

· Experience working with members of the public and government officials.

· Knowledge of federal and state regulations and policies concerning offshore wind.

Native American Preference will be adhered to in accordance with Penobscot Nation Personnel Policies and Procedures.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

· Assumes primary responsibility for the Penobscot Nation’s engagement with the offshore wind industry.

· Identifies and tracks issues, opportunities, and developments related to offshore wind and other sustainable energy projects as they arise.

· Communicates and informs the tribal public, natural resources director, economic development director, cultural department, Wabanaki sustainable energy coordinator, Chief and Council, on topics related to sustainable energy and offshore wind.

· Engages with federal, state, and NGO partners such as BOEM, BSEE, NOAA, NROC, GEO, and TNC.

· Collaborates with the department of natural resources and other tribal departments to effectively implement strategies in the SEP.

· Ensures compliance with grants supporting the programs work.

· Works with other Wabanaki Tribal Nations to inform them of issues, opportunities, and developments in sustainable energy and offshore wind.

· Assists with the completion of all documents and reports on a timely basis as required.

· Interacts harmoniously and effectively with others, focusing upon the attainment of Penobscot Nation goals and objectives through a commitment to teamwork.

· Conforms to acceptable attendance/punctuality standards as expressed in the Employee Handbook.

· Performs other related tasks, as requested.

Physical Demands/Conditions/Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, kneel, bend, crouch, run, reach overhead, grasp, push, climb, pull, use hands to finger, handle, or operate objects, controls, or equipment.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; consistent physical effort requiring good physical condition is required. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work is performed in both an indoor and outdoor setting; exposure to adverse weather conditions may occur. Flexibility in work schedule is required.
