Pay Range: $19.16 - $25.97 per hour
Status/Term: Full-time, Non-Exempt

Job Summary:
The Penobscot Nation is seeking a skilled and compassionate Referral/Insurance Coordinator, who is responsible for coordinating and processing all off-site health care referrals, researching and providing high-cost amounts to the Purchased and Referred Care (PRC) Committee, preparing and processing denials, deferrals, and other insurance requests to patients.
Qualifications Required:
· High School Diploma or GED required.
· Computer proficiency including experience in electronic appointment scheduling and experience with word processing required.
· Experience in generating referrals for insurance required.
· Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology required.
· 2 years’ experience working in an office setting and knowledge of Medical Terminology required.
· Indian Preference will be adhered to in accordance with the Penobscot Nation Personnel Policies and Procedures.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Completes all referrals from providers and patients for Purchased and Referred Care Committee including high-cost estimates.
- Schedules appointments for patient referrals.
- Notifies patients regarding the date and time of appointments and any pre-appointment instructions as indicated.
- Sends appropriate referral information to offsite provider, including related medical information and correct insurance information.
- Scans patient documents and keeps medical charts updated.
- Reviews all referrals returned by the Purchased and Referred Care Committee.
- Performs additional related duties as requested.
- Interacts professionally and effectively with others, focusing upon the attainment of Penobscot Nation goals and objectives through a commitment to teamwork.
- Conforms to acceptable attendance/punctuality standards as expressed in the employee handbook.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands/Conditions/Requirements:
Must be able to stand, sit, walk, use hands, fingers, reach with hands and fingers and arms, meet minimum vision requirements, lean and stoop down, and lift up to 25 pounds.
