Job Summary:
The Penobscot Nation is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician to support the operations of our Health Department pharmacy. Under the supervision of the Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician will assist in the preparation and completion of prescriptions, ensuring accuracy, safety, and compliance with all applicable regulations.Qualifications Required:
· High School Diploma or G.E.D.
· Eligible for licensure by State of Maine as a Pharmacy Technician.
· Demonstrated computer skills.
· Completion of a medical terminology course (preferred).
· Ability to work with the public.
· Native American Preference will be adhered to in accordance with the Penobscot Nation Personnel Policies and Procedures.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Enter the appropriate demographic, patient, prescription, and any other information in the relevant computer systems
- Fill the prescriptions by entering the appropriate information into the computer systems, labeling the container, retrieving the medication from storage, and preparing the medication
- Prepare any necessary unit dose cards
- Have all prescriptions reviewed by the Pharmacist or other supervising medical personnel
- Dispense the prescription to the appropriate patient
- Refer all questions regarding prescriptions to the Pharmacist or other supervising medical personnel
- Complete inventory or medication counts in preparation for supply order
- Check all invoices and packing slips for accurate billing
- Place all inventory in storage
- Prepare all invoices, packing slips, and purchase orders for review by the Pharmacist prior to forwarding to the Finance Office for payment
- Field all telephone calls for the pharmacy
- Take all requests for prescription refills
- Take any messages for the Pharmacist
- Forward call to the other appropriate departments as necessary
- Complete all secretarial duties for the Pharmacist, including reports, correspondence, meeting minutes, and merchandise orders
- Be responsible for following confidentiality procedures as outline by HIPAA
- Any other appropriate duties as assigned by supervisor
- Interacts professionally and effectively with others, focusing upon the attainment of Penobscot Nation goals and objectives through a commitment to teamwork.
- Conforms to acceptable attendance/punctuality standards as expressed in the employee handbook.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands/Conditions/Requirements:
Must be able to stand and walk, for long periods, as well as use of hands, fingers, and reaching is required. Lift up to 25 pounds at times, minimum vision requirements necessary.
