Role Description
This position is an entry level position in the Executive Accounting Series. The Office of Comptroller Operations is supportive of career growth opportunities, and this position is a training program with promotional opportunity to the mid-level staff accountant role of Executive Accounting Specialist. Upon successful completion of a minimum one-year training and probationary period as an Accounting Associate, candidates in this position will be eligible for promotion to an Executive Accounting Specialist.
As an Accounting Associate, you will serve as a vital contact for our agencies and strong support to the unit providing analysis, control and professional guidance in the areas of government financial and budgetary accounting. This position serves to ensure ongoing governmental transparency, legal and fiscal accountability and appropriate use of Commonwealth resources. You will assist the Manager and other accounting staff as needed with various projects and initiatives. You will ensure all drawdown related activities comply with applicable law, regulation and grant requirements and prepare quarterly and final Federal Financial Reports for all assigned grants. This position performs professional accounting work through critical analyses, journalizing, reconciliation, interpretation, recommendations and conclusions affecting financial/fiscal transactions and reporting.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Three years as an Accounting Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) and completion of 21 college credits in accounting and an additional 3 credits in finance or accounting; or
- Two years as a Fiscal Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) and completion of 21 college credits in accounting and an additional 3 credits in finance or accounting; or
- A bachelor’s degree including 21 credits in accounting and an additional 3 credits in finance or accounting; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 21 college credits in accounting and an additional 3 credits in finance or accounting.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
