Salary Range:              Starting salary $87,903 commensurate with experience

Basic Function


An employee in this position serves as the Director of a regional office for the Bureau of Narcotics Investigation & Drug Control (BNI). Work entails directing all aspects of a comprehensive drug control program in a region.  The Regional Director must ensure compliance with established policy and procedures as well as program effectiveness.  This person must be familiar with current drug trends both illegal and legal, and must be current on all Pennsylvania laws and regulations for both the illegal and legal narcotics industries.  Oversight of this position is received from the First Deputy Chief and Deputy Chief of BNI.



  • Assigns and directs all investigations within BNI Region VII (Erie Area – including Erie, Crawford, Venango, Warren, Forest, McKean, Elk, and Cameron Counties)
  • Maintains a confidential Advance Fund within the Region in accordance with Bureau regulations or monitors the disbursement and utilization of advance funds to ensure that budgetary restrictions are met
  • Directs a Regional Firearms Qualification program
  • Supervises the Region’s evidence security and control systems
  • Controls the assignment and utilization of state vehicles and supervises other supportive functions within the Region
  • Prepares and signs employee Performance Evaluation Reports
  • Assists in resolving and/or responding to employee grievances and complaints
  • Recommends favorable or adverse personnel actions and appropriately documents any such actions
  • Assists in the planning and development of on-the-job training programs and ensures implementation
  • Reviews work of agents in progress and upon completion for effectiveness and adherence to Bureau standards
  • Provides assistance to supervisors in all phases of special, statewide drug enforcement programs
  • Assists with the coordination of specialized statewide enforcement or operational activities
  • Develops, fosters, and maintains sustaining collaborative relationships with all local, state, and federal law enforcement agency partners within the regional area of responsibility
  • Coordinates and leads inner/outer law enforcement agency meetings
  • Performs other duties as assigned


  • Four years as a Narcotics Agent II and/or Special Agent II with two years of qualifying supervisory experience OR
  • Two years as a Narcotics Agent III and/or Special Agent III (with four years of experience as a Narcotics Agent II and/or Special Agent II, other qualifying supervisory experience can be substituted for time as an Agent III) OR


Successful completion of Act 120 certification or an Act 120 equivalent certification, or graduation from the Commonwealth Investigator Training Program (CITP) AND


  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate’s degree in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Police Science, Police Administration, or a related major specific to the criminal investigative field, or a technical or specialized major related to a specific position, and eight years of relevant law enforcement or investigative experience or experience in a technical or specialized field related to a specific position including two years of qualifying supervisory experience OR
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Police Science, Police Administration, or a related major specific to the criminal investigative field, or a technical or specialized major related to a specific position, and six years of relevant law enforcement or investigative experience or experience in a technical or specialized field related to a specific position including two years of qualifying supervisory experience OR
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Police Science, Police Administration, or a related major specific to the criminal investigative field, or a technical or specialized major related to a specific position, and five years of relevant law enforcement or investigative experience or experience in a technical or specialized field related to a specific position including two years of qualifying supervisory experience OR
  • Ten years of relevant law enforcement or investigative experience or experience in a technical or specialized field related to a specific position including two years of qualifying supervisory experience OR
  • Four years of active duty military experience with honorable discharge and six years of relevant law enforcement or investigative experience or experience in a technical or specialized field related to a specific position including two years of qualifying supervisory experience OR
  • Ten years of active duty military experience with honorable discharge including six years as a Military Police Officer with the Criminal Investigations Division or a relevant Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) and two years of qualifying supervisory experience OR
  • Any equivalent combination of relevant education, experience, and training
