Work Hours:           8:30 – 5:00


Salary Range:        Starting salary of $98,289, commensurate with experience


Basic Function


The duties of a Senior Deputy Attorney General within the Charitable Trusts and Organizations Section involve supervising and/or conducting investigations and enforcement actions regarding property committed to charitable purposes to ensure it is duly administered for the benefit of the public-at-large.  This is advanced professional work rendering legal services of great complexity and importance.  Employees in this position work independently except in extraordinary cases and are responsible for handling litigation of a highly specialized nature at the trial court level.  Employees assigned to this level are usually considered experts in the following fields of law and may supervise a small professional staff concerning:


  • the proper administration of decedents’ estates and inter vivos trusts involving a charitable interest pursuant to the Commonwealth Attorney Act, 71 P.S. §§ 732-101 et seq., the Probates, Estates & Fiduciaries Code, 20 Pa. C.S. §§ 101, et seq., the procedural rules of court, and Pennsylvania’s common law;
  • the governance of nonprofit organizations formed for charitable purposes in redressing the waste, mismanagement, or diversion of assets, as well as overseeing amendments to organizational purposes and change-of-control transactions to ensure compliance with the Associations Code, 15 Pa. C.S. §§ 101, et seq., and the Nonprofit Corporations Law of 1988, 15 Pa. C.S. §§ 5101, et seq.; and
  • public fundraising campaigns conducted by charitable organizations and/or their professional fundraisers subject to the Solicitation of Funds for Charitable Purposes Act, 10 P.S. §§ 162.1 et seq., and Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law, 73 P.S. §§ 201-1, et seq.

As the Attorney-in-Charge of the Philadelphia office, this role involves supervising, training, evaluating, and otherwise managing the staff attorneys in the Philadelphia office.


  • Prepares, tries, and argues cases in various courts in the state and in federal district courts
  • Prepares pleadings, briefs, and allied court papers in connection with suits, trials, hearings, or other court procedures
  • Performs legal research in connection with the preparation of trial and appellate briefs
  • Oversees the maintenance of complete and accurate files within an electronic case management system
  • Supervises junior attorneys in specific matters
  • Supervises investigative and clerical support staff
  • Completes performance evaluations
  • Approves leave requests
  • Ensures compliance with office policies and procedures
  • Drafts memoranda and provides recommendations involving complex issues
  • Answers routine correspondence
  • Performs related work as required


  • Graduation from an accredited school of law, admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, and a minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in professional legal work
