The Pennsylvania College of Art & Design is seeking a pool of qualified applicants for online and on-campus adjunct teaching positions in our Liberal Arts Department. Identifying qualified applicants who can teach online Foundations of Verbal Communication (FVC) courses, which focus on both oral and written communication, are a focus area for the Spring 2025 semester. Experience teaching college level composition in analytical, reflective, persuasive, and informative reading, writing, and speaking is preferred for FVC courses. Opportunities to teach in person or online in other Liberal Arts disciplines, such as creative writing, literature, sociology, psychology, math, science, art history, music history, philosophy, and other general humanities are also available on an as-needed basis.
General Responsibilities:
The adjunct faculty member shall be responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the Department Chair; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in his/her regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of an adjunct faculty member as outlined in the college faculty handbook.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree from an accredited institution with professional experience preferred (Bachelor’s degree with ten years of professional experience considered)
- College-level teaching experience highly preferred
- Experience measuring student performance and teaching to curricular standards on online platforms preferred
- Online education training or certifications preferred
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Interpersonal and classroom management skills
- Proficiency in the Google G Suite and familiarity with course management systems
- Publication and presentation experience is welcome
- Commitment to the highest level of academic standards and integrity
- Must consent to a criminal background check and child abuse history clearance as a part of the hiring/onboarding process.
